# Mark Bookings In Progress

> Learn how to track active bookings in real-time from the instructor portal

As an instructor, you can mark bookings as "In Progress" when you begin a training session. This helps administrators and students track active flights and sessions in real-time.

## Accessing Your Bookings

The quickest way to manage your bookings is from your instructor portal home page.

   * Go to your instructor portal home page
   * Locate the "My Bookings" calendar widget

2. **Find Your Current Booking**
   * Your upcoming and current bookings are displayed in the calendar
   * Bookings are shown with their scheduled times and participants

## Marking a Booking In Progress

When you're ready to start your training session:

1. **Select the Booking**
   * Click on the booking you're about to begin
   * Or click the "Mark as In Progress" button directly on the booking card

2. **Confirm the Action**
   * A confirmation dialog will appear
   * Review the booking details to ensure it's the correct session
   * Click "Confirm" to mark the booking as in progress

3. **Automatic Status Update**
   * The booking status immediately changes to "In Progress"
   * Students and administrators can see the session is active
   * The booking appears differently on the timetable (typically highlighted or with a different color)

## What Happens When Marked In Progress

When you mark a booking as in progress:

* **Status Change**: Booking moves from "Booked" to "In Progress"
* **Visual Indicators**: The booking appears active on all timetables
* **Real-time Updates**: Students and admins see the live status
* **Activity Tracking**: The system records when the session started
* **Audit Log**: A log entry is created documenting the status change

## After the Session

Once your training session is complete, you'll need to mark it as completed. This is covered in the [Complete Bookings](/instructor/bookings/complete) guide.

## Benefits of Tracking In Progress Status

### For Instructors

* **Clear Communication**: Students know their session has begun
* **Activity Tracking**: Your active sessions are visible to dispatch
* **Safety**: Ground staff know which aircraft/resources are in use

### For Students

* **Peace of Mind**: Confirmation that their instructor has started the session
* **Status Visibility**: Can track their booking progress in real-time

### For Administrators

* **Live Operations View**: See all active training sessions at a glance
* **Resource Management**: Track which aircraft and instructors are currently active
* **Safety Oversight**: Monitor active flights and sessions

## Tips

* **Mark it promptly**: Update status when you actually begin, not just when you arrive
* **Double-check**: Ensure you're marking the correct booking, especially if you have back-to-back sessions
* **Mobile access**: You can mark bookings in progress from any device with internet access

## Common Questions

**Q: What if I forget to mark it in progress?**
A: Not a problem - you can still complete the booking normally. The in-progress status is helpful but not mandatory.

**Q: Can I undo marking a booking in progress?**
A: Yes, administrators can revert the status if needed. Contact your scheduling team if you marked the wrong booking.

**Q: Does this affect billing?**
A: The in-progress status is for tracking only.

**Q: What if I'm running late?**
A: Mark the booking in progress when you actually start, not at the scheduled time. The system records the actual start time.
